Adolescence: A time of change.
As children transition from early childhood to their teen years, adolescent orthodontics focuses on applying braces for the prevention and/or correction of irregularities of the jaws, teeth and bite.
Orthodontics corrects poor bite mechanics and improves self-confidence. Orthodontic treatment not only creates a beautiful smile but also improves bad bites (malocclusion) that may adversely affect other areas of a teenager’s life. The benefits of correcting problems early.
The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that all children have an initial orthodontic screening at age 7. That’s because potential problems can be identified at this stage and treated before they become big, expensive problems later on. The timing of orthodontic treatment is extremely important and greatly affects treatment approach. We believe in early preventive and growth guidance treatment, but it is never too late to get started.

Preventive treatment options may include expansion devices, partial braces and other custom appliances. Use of a soft-tissue laser enables Dr. Feller to expedite treatment by uncovering unerupted teeth, performing gingival (gum) recontouring and/or frenectomy (the reshaping of the tissue that connects the lips, cheek or tongue to the jawbone in cases where it is indicated).
